Remembrance Ceremony
for MOH Recipient Staff Sergeant 
Robert C Murray (Vietnam 1970)

Please join us in remembering this American hero who 45 years ago threw himself on a grenade and saved 8 fellow soldiers. Robert was from Tuckahoe, NY and was 23 years old when he died.  The ceremony will include Pipes and Drums, rifle salute, taps. The public is invited.

Specially designated ceremonial wreaths will be placed on soldiers graves to remember those who served, honor their sacrifices and teach our younger generation about the cost of freedom during a ceremony that will be coordinated simultaneously at over 400 participating locations nationwide.  The Public is urged to attend this ceremony. If you would like to sponsor a $15 wreath for a soldier's grave you can do so by clicking the Wreaths Across America tab on this site. If you  want more information on this event, please contact Cynthia at 914 484-6281. Nobody should be forgotten during the Holiday season. Especially our veterans.

"Colonial Holiday Traditions" at the Miller House

Come join us as we usher in the holidays and learn how the Colonist celebrated the holidays (or not). Hear about the different traditions the Colonist brought with them across the Atlantic.
Did George Washington celebrate Christmas? How about Paul Revere?

The immerse yourself in the 18th century as we are welcomed by "Mrs. Ann Fisher Miller" to tour her historic home. We will be standing in the footsteps of history including those of George Washington.
Seating is limited due to covid -19. Sponsored by Westchester County Parks.

Sunday, April 19, 2020  at 1pm-4pm (Reservations required/limited seating)
​Start and end at historic Miller House, 140 Virginia Rd., No. White Plains
​Parking available. PLEASE ARRIVE BY 12:30. TROLLEY LEAVES AT 1PM PROMPTLY.

We will travel by Trolley and visit the sites of the Battle of White Plains, the court house where the Declaration of Independence was read in 1776 and the birth place of New York State,  Mitchell house and Miller Hill, Horton's gristmill, Colonial grave yard and more. Private tour of Miller House included.  Tour goes rain or shine in our enclosed Trolley.

ROAD TRIP TO LINCOLN MUSEUM AND TROLLEY TOUR
April 28th, 2019 at 10:45 am
This is opening week-end at the museum and there will be re-enactors and an encampment, Gen Grant strolling the grounds and two great presentations:
Lincoln and the Surrender at Appomattox and Zouaves, America’s Forgotten Soldiers
Before we arrive at the Lincoln museum, we will board a Trolley and tour the sites and places following in George Washington’s footsteps when he stayed in Peekskill.
​We travel together round trip by private bus. Park and ride and join the fun!

Seven specially designated ceremonial wreaths will be placed on memorials to remember those who served, honor their sacrifices and teach our younger generation about the cost of freedom during a ceremony that will be coordinated simultaneously at over 400 participating locations nationwide.
In addition to these ceremonial wreaths, sponsored wreaths will be placed on veteran’s graves in local cemeteries. The Public is urged to attend this ceremony. PATRIOTS IN PETTICOATS/240 yr commemoration of Declaring our Independence  
March 6, 2016 (Sunday) at 2:00 pm
Historic Minot Mitchell House (now American Legion)

We are celebrating Women's History month with "Patriots in Petticoats". We will highlight the many accomplishments of women during the American Revolution. Patriot "Ann Fisher Miller" will tell her life story and what it was like to live through the Revolution. We are also commemorating 240 years (1776-2016) of Declaring our Independence. There will be re-enactors, flag raising ceremony, musket demonstration. Light refreshments, cash bar available. Free program.

Minot Mitchell house was built in 1810 and is a replica of the first colonial courthouse where the Declaration of Independence was read to the public for the first time on July 11, 1776.

ANN FISHER MILLER HEADSTONE UNVEILING

Ann Miller is a Patriot of the American Revolution whose home hosted many Generals including George Washington and was used as a hospital and her property an encampment and battle ground. Her home also was the birthplace of Methodism in the area. Please join us for the unveiling of Ann Miller's headstone. Ann's headstone was hand carved by master carver Robert Carpenter in the same manner as the 18th century carvers. Her burial location was lost for 100 years until DOLL located it in ancient cemetery records at the County archives. She is resting next to her husband and 2 sons who all died during the war in 1776. Light refreshments.

TROLLEY TOUR OF HISTORIC COLONIAL WHITE PLAINS

BATTLE OF WHITE PLAINS COMMEMORATION
October 25, 2015 at 1:00 PM - FREE
(Camp opens at 10am - come visit the soldiers)
Purdy House - 60 Park Ave., White Plains, NY

We will be participating with the White Plains Historical Society in commemorating the Battle of White Plains that occurred on October 28, 1776.

There will be re-enactors, camp followers and George Washington will be there. A special appearance by "Abigail Purdy" who will talk about what life was like for her and her husband Jacob who was in the Battle of White Plains. Color guard, flag raising, musket firing, refreshments. 

Note: George Washington stayed at Purdy House before the Battle began in 1776.

Purdy House will be open for inspection.

Seven specially designated ceremonial wreaths will be placed on memorials at the Legion to remember those who served, honor their sacrifices and teach our younger generation about the cost of freedom during a ceremony that will be coordinated simultaneously at over 400 participating locations nationwide.
In addition to these ceremonial wreaths, sponsored wreaths will be placed on veteran’s graves in local cemeteries. During this 50th commemoration year of the Vietnam war, the Daughters of Liberty’s Legacy will be placing wreaths on the graves of Vietnam veterans killed during the war and buried in the White Plains/Mt. Pleasant area. The Public is urged to attend this ceremony and light refreshments will be available at conclusion.
